The Mesa Neighborhood Organization
2009 Annual Report

In 2010 The Mesa Neighbor Organization will celebrate its third year as a neighborhood improvement organization. Our group was conceived to establish an effective communication structure to be used to help survive a local disaster, foster community improvement, support neighborhood beautification projects and assist in the preservation of the historic quality of The Mesa. We are a neighborhood organization of volunteers that sacrifice their time and energy to support the goals of our group and community.

Every year at this time our neighborhood group looks closely at how well the bylaws and goals of The Mesa Neighborhood Organization have been met. This year our neighborhood organization has decided to eliminate requests for dues and allow all residents to vote at our annual meetings to decide how our resources will be used to accomplish their goals. The goals that are supported by our members will be accomplished using volunteers and tax deductable donations to The Mesa Neighborhood Organization. Projects will be presented and defined at our annual meeting, on Thursday, March 25, at the Moorten Botanical Garden from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Each potential project will have an estimated cost and commitment. The residents of our neighborhood will be asked to discuss and debate the value of the various projects and goals they want to support. This year only projects that are supported and funded will be given priority to be completed. These changes in our bylaws have been requested and encouraged by members of The Mesa community to obtain broader support and participation in neighborhood improvement projects. Our bylaws will be changed to reflect these amendments at the start of our annual meeting so all residents can participate and vote.

Several achievements have been accomplished in our second year that directly support goals in our bylaws. Members of our community have dedicated their time, money and energy to become certified by the Palm Springs Fire Department in basic emergency response procedures to assist their community in surviving a local disaster. The Mesa currently has nine individuals that can provide our community with their knowledge and expertise during a local disaster when the emergency response capability of our City may be degraded by the scope of the disaster. The Mesa is committed to having the highest number of volunteers trained and certified in emergency response procedures to support you. Our neighborhood volunteer group has also designed and installed distinctive blade signs that help identify the unique character of The Mesa. A new canyon cleanup program was initiated last year to rid our local mountain canyons in The Mesa of man-made debris.

We have come a long way in a relatively short period of time. Lots of work has been required of our volunteers to get us to this point in our development as a neighborhood group. Please examine the information you have received and plan on helping in some way to help your neighborhood in 2010 accomplish a goal you support.
