The Mesa Neighborhood Organization Annual Report

As neighbors we have been saying for years that it would be nice to bring our community together in a neighborhood organization that would help maintain the special character of The Mesa. Last year on November 14 we had our first planning meeting to start the process of developing the structure for a neighborhood organization by getting our neighbors together to improve the value of their community.

Since our first planning meeting in November our organization has made several steps to complete the goals of putting together the process to become a recognized member of the Palm Springs Neighborhood Involvement Organization. At our first planning meeting we approved by a majority vote to start the process by obtaining a Formation Committee to start organizing our new neighborhood group. We now have a name: The Mesa Neighborhood Organization. Our bylaws have been closely examined by a new Bylaws Committee and their outstanding work has been review by the Advisory Committee and needed changes have been made to our governing bylaws. A Web Committee was formed to develop a unique website communication channel to provide our members with rapid updates of what is happening in their community and who to contact for information concerning The Mesa Neighborhood Organization.

Our financial house was organized and a long term relationship is being established with The Canyon National Bank to conduct financial transactions for our organization. Several members of our neighborhood saw a need to preserve some of the history of The Mesa by ensuring the old gate house on El Portal was not demolished during new construction planned for the corner lot. A neighborhood committee was formed to research the history of The Mesa Gate House and study how the El Portal entrance might serve as the gateway into our community to enhance the value or our neighborhood. Our Block Captain committee is still being organized. Our neighborhood Block Captain group will organize each street to better meet the needs of the members of our unique community.

This first year will see the refinement of our organizational structure. The neighborhood will be organized street by street to better support the needs of our community. Projects and events will be scheduled to bring our neighborhood closer together. Some of the suggested events for our first year are a Home/Garden tour, a Clean-Up Day, Disaster Training, Street Watch Program, Summer Barbeque and a Chili Contest. We would like to have several of these neighborhood fun events scheduled and details available on your web site soon.

Thank you for your support in taking a chance and letting The Mesa Neighborhood Organization into our community. We have come a long way in a relatively short period of time. Our neighborhood is working together to help The Mesa grow in a path that will maintain the unique character and value of our community.”
