SECOND ANNUAL MESA MASH AKA "THE MESA NEIGHBORHOOD APPRECIATION PICNIC"
Saturday, November 7th about 50 residents of The Mesa came to El Camino Way to participate in the Second Annual “Mesa Mash”, more formally known as The Mesa Neighborhood Appreciation Picnic.
The event started at 2pm and ended around 5pm. Residents were
given name tags with the new The Mesa logo on them. Upon entry,
they saw two classic cars, one owned by Dennis Duca and one owned
by Sidney Braquet.; there were numerous tables and chairs set up with
umbrellas to provide shade.
Leon’s Restaurant was charged with the catering and they set up a BBQ
with hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings. Residents provided
some delicious Pot-Luck dishes including several great salads, fresh
fruit, beans, chips, pumpkin and pecan pies, carrot cake cupcakes and
chocolate chip cookies. Wine, beer, soda and bottled water were also avail-
able. No one went home hungry!!!
There were several poster displays provided by Dennis Duca and Rosie Vacano:
Neighborhood Preparedness, CERT Training and Emergency Preparedness. All
of these are “goals” of The Mesa Neighborhood Organization (TMNO) for the coming
year.
John Harrell got a real street sign post from the City and a street sign on which
he mounted the prototype of The Mesa blade sign which is under production. We
are hoping that the signs we ordered from the City will be available, as John said
“soonish”, so we can organize a dedication ceremony and party.
It was a great Mesa Mash party as organized by Dennis Duca. Although we had
fewer attendees than last year, it was more successful as having tables, chairs and
umbrellas made the venue much more comfortable than last year, much more con-
dusive to conversations between neighbors. Getting to know you...
Hopefully, word of the success of the event will spread throughout the neighborhood
and more folks would like to become dues-paying members. We have set our goals
for the coming year and we expect positive results from our efforts.
The Mesa Mash will be an occasion where we can celebrate our successes in achieving
those goals. Congratulations on a successful Second Mesa Mash!!!

FIRST ANNUAL MESA NEIGHBORHOOD FALL CLEANUP
On Saturday morning, October 24, 2009, eleven residents of The Mesa met at the canyon at the west
end of El Camino Way for our first annual Neighborhood Fall Cleanup.
Palm Springs Disposal Services provided a large dumpster free of charge. Unexpectedly, the canyon
was cleaner than we had anticipated so we barely filled half the dumpster and our work was complete
in less than an hour. Next time we will need to find a more challenging area to clean-up!
Mesa residents who participated in the Clean-Up were Sidney Braquet, Tom DeWitt,
Catherine and Tom Donohue, Joe Dunn, Pamela Hays, Lee Mullennex, Bud Paliviny, Ron Stern,
Rosie Vacano and Jane Wang.
Thank you for your participation in this first event of the season in The Mesa Neighborhood.
